Story of "Zeus"
To continue our collection of unique anniversary year Camaros, we found ourselves craving a 45th anniversary Camaro. In similar fashion to what occurred in 2002, the special edition that Chevrolet was offering didn't really fit our "theme". Then when team Chevy introduced the 2012 ZL1 Camaro, our hearts did flutter. We feared with a projected low production for the first year, we would never get our mitts on one.
Enter Tom Henry Chevrolet located in Bakerstown, Pennsylvania. Tom is cousin to Scott Settlemire, long time die hard Chevrolet Enthusiast and dear friend of ours. In July of 2011 we met with Tom and put our name down on a waiting list to get one.
Tom Henry Chevrolet is family owned and has been in business since 1958. In 2001 they were offering dealer modified Camaros, and have continued the tradition with the 5th generation Camaro.
After many months of waiting, our hopes for getting a 2012 ZL1 were waning. In August 2011 we got the first hint that an allocation was possibly going to be available. In October it was official, Tom got an allocation and we could have it. Excitement does not adequately describe how we felt! So by October 29 our order PZDG7D was placed for an Ashen Grey Metallic, Hardtop and Manual Transmission. To which the waiting game began again. Production issues, quality control and delays ensued. It became many months of anguish and when I thought all was lost on getting our allocation accepted. . . we got an email on April 9, 2012 and got word he would be picked up. The week of May 14th he finally went into production. On May 18th we got our VIN.....to finally arriving at Tom’s dealership on May 24.
For the next month Tom and the gang went to work, to create our unique vision and built the one and only 2012 Tom Henry Racing ZL1.
We flew into Pittsburg on June 26th to see our new boy in person. Exceeding expectations is an understatement. What great group of people and an outstanding car.
On June 27th we drove him home . . what a great drive!
