25th Anniversary Heritage Special Edition Information
1992 was the 25th anniversary for the Camaro, and marked an end for not only the 3rd generation body style but, as well as ceasing production from the Van Nuys, California plant. Sadly, the final Camaro coming from the Van Nuys plant was built on August 28, 1992; after which the plant was shuttered, and eventually demolished. The total volume of the 1992 Camaro production run at Van Nuys would reach 70,007 units.
To celebrate the quarter century birthdate of the beloved Camaro, Chevrolet originally planned to offer 602 special Collector’s Edition Camaros. The build quantity of 602 marked the exact number of 1967 Z28's produced. The Collector's Edition Camaro started out as a white RS, with black “heritage” stripes, the B4C RPO police package (which include 1LE RPO), the engine was a Corvette L98 5.7 liter V8, equipped with aluminum heads, the intake was fitted with siamese runners and the exhaust exited via tubular headers. This brought the power rating up to 270 horsepower. The car was also came with a ZF 6-speed manual transmission and Pontiac Firebird GTA black cross lace 16”x8” wheels fitted with 245/45ZR16 Goodyear “Gatorbacks”. There were a total of two prototypes built, with I believe only one remaining in the GM Heritage Collection. Unfortunately, this plan was scrapped in favor of an appearance package designated "Heritage Edition Package" RPO code Z03, which amounted to a rear cloisonné hatch badge and rally stripes.
A grand total of 8,197 Camaros would be produced with the 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition Package. The Z03 Heritage Edition Package included 1st generation Camaro style hood and rear deck lid stripes, a body colored grille, black headlamp pockets, and a red 25th anniversary cloisonné badge on the back. The badge was located slightly differently on the RS verses the Z28. Both were on the left hand corner, but applied on the spoiler of the RS and hatch back of the Z28. All 1992 Camaros had 25th Anniversary badge on the dash panel in front of the passenger seat.
Initially when introduced the Heritage Edition Package was only available in three color combinations and offered on the RS Coupe, RS Convertible, Z28 Coupe and Z28 Convertible:
Early in 1992 two additional Heritage Edition Package color combinations were added via the CMC distribution update #92-07P. The new colors were also available on both Coupes and Convertibles:
